Island Picnic in Buka

Wednesday, 27 December 2017

By Elias Nanau

These children from Kokopau near Buka,  Bougainville had a fantastic time at sea during the Boxing Day holiday.

They swam at a turquoise water and beautiful white sandy beach.

This is at Bonus where there is a huge coconut plantation administered by expat managers.

Then cars from mainland Bougainville also cross over here on a pontoon to Buka Island seen at the background here.

These children’s political future also lies on the hands of adult Bougainvilleans who would have reached 18 years of age by June 2019 voting on referendum where Bougainville remains part of PNG with an autonomous government or becomes Independent.
