Bougainville referendum polling winds down

The Bougainville referendum polling has wound down as they move to orderly and securely transport ballot boxes to the count centre in Buka.

The Bougainville referendum commission in a brief statement says polling across Bougainville was completed on Saturday with only three regional centres opened yesterday and there were 30 voters in Buka and seven in Arawa.

They will close all regional centre votes today at 6pm.

This is the last chance for anyone to cast their vote.

The BRC is now focused on orderly movement according to plan with security, with scrutiny and with observation.

They should keep observers and scrutineers aware of movement of materials .

There would be a briefing for observers and scrutineers this Saturday.

The ballot boxes would be stored in three locked shipping containers, with 24/7 police presence.

BRC says the ballot boxes would be checked to ensure there was no tampering with the box,

all seals and locks are intact and correctly numbered.

They should confirm all materials are there and no ballot box would be opened until the scrutiny after Saturday 6pm.
