Prime Minister James Marape and National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop were among the first to be vaccinated against Covid-19 today at the National Football Stadium.
The 8,000 AstraZeneca vaccines were brought into the country on a Royal Australian Air Force aircraft last week.
A team of Australian medical doctors also accompanied the vaccines.
Frontline workers preventing the spread of Covid-19 will be the first to be vaccinated.
The country though has had dissenting views on whether the vaccine should be rolled out yet or not.
There are people who think there may side effects in people got the shots as in Europe when few people were reported to have blood cloths.
There is hope that the vaccination today witnessed by the media as well would help correct a few misinformation and market that health conscious mind for people to be vaccinated.
Papua New Guinea’s Covid-19 stats have just gone past 5,500 cumulative from the last 12 months and its death toll, some from patients with morbidity remain at 56 as reported from the national response centre. Information were recorded in the last 24 hours.
